Can These Really Be My Girls.....

Funny title, but I have to say...Both girls were home today and they were angels.....I do not know if it is becaused I braced myself for today or what, but it was a good day....Any day of good listening ears and no fighting is good day...

I am a little disappointed because Elizabeth wanted a playdate tomorrow, with this girl from her class and the mom never called me. I kept reminding her to give me her # and she has mine, but no call. I have to be honest...there was something that told me that she was not going to call, but its tough to tell a 5 yr. old that her plan to see her friend fell through. I just told her that her mom might of misplaced our # or something could of came up, blah, blah, blah...I think she's ok with that...

Its no secret that Elizabeth is in a public school. Like last year, she has made a lot of friends in her class. The one thing that is hard to understand is that when she was in PreK, which was a private school, the friends were "closer" or easily accessible. The parents seemed willing and made an effort to get their own children to play with other kids...But this year is so different. Last year, Elizabeth attended 7 birthday parties during the school year. This year, 1 so far and that was a boy she's known since Gymboree. But I'm sure every year will be different and parents are so involved these days with activities of their kids, work or maybe just more cautious about getting to know other families and having their kids play...The last statement is also hard to understand because 5 yr old's still get together with the parent(s) there. Its not a sad situation at all, she still sees 3 or 4 of the children she went to school with last year...plus has her friends from dance and our church choir....

I had made a wonderful dinner being that the girls had no place to be, no car lines, no nothing. We had a roast beef, with homemade rice pilaf, sauteed carrots and a wonderful red wine/shallot sauce. And guess what...I did it not my personal Chef...Yes, I took back my kitchen....

I totally understand the whole getting to know the other parents/kids in kindergarten. This year is a lot different for us also. We were very close to several kids/parents in his class last year and still do stuff with them but this year it's definitely harder. It makes me wonder if there's something wrong with my kid sometimes.

Dinner sounds yummy! Hope the girls enjoyed it! These are the years that both parents & kids grow thicker skin I guess. We are all going through it or will soon enough!

Karen, regarding thinking something was wrong with Shawn, I thought the same thing...I guess it helps both of us because two different schools and similar situations...Nothing is wrong with our kids...And Andrea, I thought it would be easier being that Matthew is in the same school and the connection of friends might be easier to follow, but then I thought about it and he will be changing classes every year, new kids coming in, etc...So yes, it doesn't matter if you are in a private school or not...sounds like we are all in or going to be in the same boat...:(

Sarah was a very shy little girl when she started kindergarten, and she never really talked about the other kids in her class - only about what activities they were doing. When I went to her first parent-teacher conference, the only question I had for the teacher was, "Does Sarah have any friends?" Thankfully, her teacher told me that Sarah and another very shy girl had gotten close and were always together. By the end of the year, I met the girl's mother and the following year we made sure the girls joined the same Girl Scout troop.
Once Sarah was in Girl Scouts, she really started to blossom, and now she has tons of friends, even after changing schools and having to start all over again.
